Both date and ntpdate say they succeed but neither actually do anything. Running date && ntpdate && date produces: Mon Dec 4 11:59:49 EST 2000 4 Dec 11:59:50 ntpdate[5770]: adjust time server 202.139.83.12 offset -15285721.964301 sec Mon Dec 4 11:59:50 EST 2000 The machine is a Compaq Prolinea 4/50 (486).
