Sounds like trouble with your firewall rules or natd or both.

The following are in the default rc.firewall,

${fwcmd} add 100 pass all from any to any via lo0
${fwcmd} add 200 deny all from any to 127.0.0.0/8
Did you remove them in yours?
Please post your firewall rules and natd configuration (rc.conf and a
natd.conf file if it exists).
