I have finally been able to reproduce the problem. If I choose several packages to install via cdrom, the system will panic and automatically reboot. Below are the panics that I have been able to generate from simply selecting several packages and installing them from the cd with /stand/sysinstall. (I have paraphrased the errors since I couldn't write them down fast enough and I don't know where to find them if they are logged.) 1) panic: page fault synching disks 133 133 133 ...... 2) panic: ffs_valloc valloc failed synching disks ... Also, I was able to generate the following panic by doing a control C while copying from the cdrom to my hard drive. 3) Fatal Trap 12: page fault in kernel mode fault mode: supervisor write, page does not exist(or something like that) Some comments: 1) The panics seem to occur when the cd is operationing 2) The panics seem to occur when the cd is at its maximum speed. The cd is variable speed. I can tell by the pitch changes is makes.
