No, I don't believe it is a group/perm problem. The perms of /dev/dsp0.0 (which /dev/dsp is dynamically linked to) are 666 (rw-rw-rw-) owned by root.wheel. An example of a user that I am unable to play with is joshbl.users (also in wheel). Any more thoughts?
