hello, i'm having problems using syslogd's network feature. it appears
that it receives and logs messages from other machines properly, but it
refuses to generate the packets. i have the following line in
syslog.conf on illusion.unixfreak.org:
local5.* @shift.unixfreak.org
however, when i do `logger -p local5.notice test1` the message does not
appear on shift. when i manually connect to udp port 514 (syslog) on
shift the message i type gets logged just fine. this is also true in the
reverse - shift wont send messages to illusion.
syslogd is started as `syslogd -l /etc/bind.root/dev/log` on both
machines.
what am i missing? any ideas?
thanks in advance,
