I have no entry for sane in that file on my system, you should check to see whether or not the port added one. If not, you'll have to do it. According to IANA the entry should look like this: sane-port 6566/tcp #SANE Control Port sane-port 6566/udp #SANE Control Port FWIW, reading inetd(8) should have got you at least part way there.
