This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0024_01BD962E.1CB61940 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable I have FreeBSD 2.2.6 running ppp and acting as a gateway for my=20 Windows 95 machines. It all works wonderfully, and I have no=20 problem surfing with the browsers on the Win95 units. But when I want to ping a computer on the Internet, unless I know the=20 IP address, I'm out of luck. For example if I ping 206.66.36.12, I get a = reply. But if I ping www.airmail.net, I get the unknown host error=20 message. Can someone tell me how to get the FreeBSD machine to=20 recognize site names, not just addresses? This also is a problem for=20 me when I want to FTP with the FreeBSD unit. I have to go to one of=20 the Win95 units, run CuteFTP, using the domain name, like=20 ftp.freebsd.org, and when the IP address appears I write it down and=20 then use it on my FreeBSD machine. Shouldn't I just be able to enter=20 the domain name on the command line for FreeBSD? ------=_NextPart_000_0024_01BD962E.1CB61940 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD W3 HTML//EN"> <HTML> <HEAD> <META content=3Dtext/html;charset=3Diso-8859-1 = http-equiv=3DContent-Type> <META content=3D'"MSHTML 4.72.2106.6"' name=3DGENERATOR> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV>I have FreeBSD 2.2.6 running ppp and acting as a gateway for my = </DIV> <DIV>Windows 95 machines.
