--- Comment #53 from lightside <lightside@gmx.com> ---
I found the cause of your proposed changes, if compiling the test.cpp code
(from comment #51) with Clang 3.8 compiler from devel/llvm38 port:
-8<--
% clang++38 test.cpp -o test_38
test.cpp:11:9: warning: taking the absolute value of unsigned type 'unsigned
int' has no effect [-Wabsolute-value]
        return abs(a - b) > 100;
               ^
test.cpp:11:9: note: remove the call to 'abs' since unsigned values cannot =
be
negative
        return abs(a - b) > 100;
               ^~~
1 warning generated.
-->8-
But it gave the same wrong result without abs:
-8<--
% ./test_38=20
check(44100, 44200) =3D 1; check_abs(44100, 44200) =3D 0
check(44200, 44200) =3D 0; check_abs(44200, 44200) =3D 0
check(44300, 44200) =3D 0; check_abs(44300, 44200) =3D 0
-->8-
Therefore, this Clang 3.8 compiler's suggestion is wrong also.
