Depends on your shell, if it's csh/tcsh then you type "setenv EDITOR
<whateveryouwant>"  if you're using bash I think it's just "et
EDITOR=<whateveryouwant>"

Obviously, one of those lines needs to go in your .cshrc or .bashrc files.
