I have seen slowdowns as well. You can speed up start time by disabling unused plug-ins as Evo spends a lot of time in the linker when starting. As for the rest of the slowdowns, please report them using GNOME Bugzilla. My research indicates that there is nothing FreeBSD-specific to this problem.
