Hi -
I have a Plextor PX-W12432Te (12/4/32) external SCSI burner hooked
up to FreeBSD 4.1-STABLE. I've burned several CD's, but now I can't get
it to work at all.

When I use cdrecord to write to a disc, I get the following (after
some initial output, the below repeats until timeout):

Executing 'test unit ready' command on Bus 0 Target 4, Lun 0 timeout 40s
CDB: 00 00 00 00 00 00
cdrecord: Input/output error. test unit ready: scsi sendcmd: retryable
error
CDB: 00 00 00 00 00 00
status: 0x2 (CHECK CONDITION)
Sense Bytes: 70 00 02 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 04 01 00 00 00 00
Sense Key: 0x2 Not Ready, Segment 0
Sense Code: 0x04 Qual 0x01 (logical unit is in process of becoming
ready) Fru 0x0
Sense flags: Blk 0 (not valid)
cmd finished after 0.000s timeout 40s

When I use cdda2wav to read from an audio disc, I get the following (after
some initial output, the below repeats until timeout):

Executing 'test unit ready' command on Bus 0 Target 4, Lun 0 timeout 300s
CDB: 00 00 00 00 00 00
cdda2wav: Input/output error. test unit ready: scsi sendcmd: retryable
error
CDB: 00 00 00 00 00 00
status: 0x2 (CHECK CONDITION)
Sense Bytes: 70 00 04 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 09 01 00 00 00 00
Sense Key: 0x4 Hardware Error, Segment 0
Sense Code: 0x09 Qual 0x01 (tracking servo failure) Fru 0x0
Sense flags: Blk 0 (not valid)
cmd finished after 0.000s timeout 300s

The inquire/checkdrive/eject stuff seems to be fine, freebsd sees the
drive on bootup, I and it used to all work. I can't mount_cd9660 a cd
either...

The other odd thing is that the "write" light blinks when I do either of
these... even after I've cancelled (or it times out) the
command. Ejecting the cd stops it.

Is the drive hosed?

Thanks!
