You need interactive mode, otherwise you can't type anything. $ ppp ppp ON mymachine> load default <does this produce errors ?> ppp ON mymachine> load provider <does this produce errors ?> They shouldn't (assuming you've got the necessary sections in the /etc/ppp/ppp.conf file.
