This is a holy war but I can only suggest qmail which got only one
disadvantage over sendmail (or is it postfix now??) which is that it
isn't installed by default on FreeBSD.

Else:
- - qmail is very stable, it's THE daemon we NEVER have problem unless
we change the running system ;-)
- - qmail is secure. There haven't been any security breaches since
qmail came up. (look at http://cr.yp.to/qmail/guarantee.html)
- - qmail is fast, probably faster than sendmail
- - qmail is easier to configure
- - qmail NEVER loses any mails
- - qmail works reliably even over NFS
