Might want to bump this number in your kernel config: maxusers 10 As I understand it doesn't limit the number of users, just hints to the kernel how big some tables need to be. Others have suggested your DNS may be slow. Would probably help if you enabled DNS caching locally. Also search the Apache docs, you can speed Apache up by letting it log accesses by IP address and not by name, not sure what is the default in the FreeBSD port. You are using SCSI HD's?
