I don't know that it is any different. I also wanted to upgrade to XFree 3.3.3 but that was broken to...until I clued in and installed the ports upgrade package. I am sure that when I check out some CVS logs, there was a fix in there for the broken elf thing, all one has to do is add the package 227upgrade.tgz. Last time I tried one of the font servers, I wish I could remember which one, I wound up with *huge* memory usage.
