I have been trying to get a Seagate ST32151N (Hawk 2-XL 2GB) to work with an adaptec 1742. During the install at the commit step, the system hangs (the activity LED on the adaptec remains on) and after about 15sec. The message "Panic(adaptec 1742) for historical reasons" is displayed. After another short delay, the system reboots. The drive works fine (in the same system) using DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.1. Initially, I had timeout problems there as well, but after downloading the latest eisa configuriation files from adaptec the problem went away. These configuration files allowed me to set a specific IRQ (11) and to specify edge trigerring. I have installed FreeBSD on another disk and tried to label the ST32151N under FreeBSD. I can usually fdisk and disklabel it, but when I try to create a file system, the timeout occurs and the system panics. The problem is similar if I run the card as a 1542 and use the aha driver. Using EZ-SCSI I found that the drive doesnot support SCSI-Linking (?) while the older drive does. I am not sure if this is pertinent but I thought it might be useful. I have been struggling with this for about 3 weeks. Any help would be appreciated. Tom Keefe
