I've had at least one person say they miss a link from the front page to
the Ports web page, as it contains the easily explorable index of
available applications for FreeBSD:
http://www.freebsd.org/ports/
I wonder if it would make sense to add an "Applications" or "Ports"
shortcut on the front page near the FAQ/etc links? It's also generally
useful for demonstrating a large application collection...
