You can search the archices at: http://www.mostang.com/sane/ which is the SANE (Scanner Access Made Easy) home page (sane can be found in the /usr/ports/graphics directory as well), and search thier mailing list archives. SCSI scanners are fairly well supported, and there apprears to be growing USB support. Parallel supports, however, appears to be the next best thing to dead. Sorry.
