Been bitten by that one before :) That's odd. I've got it working (for XFree86-4.2.0_1,1) with Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" after it failed with several of the other protocols. I'm using /dev/sysmouse and moused(8). /var/log/XFree86.0.log shows it as "auto", with no error msg. (I wondered if it error-defaulted to "Auto".)
