Thanks for the replies, the problem was an 'optical illusion' and is the last time I attempt an installation without reading glasses ! - IRQ 5 worked fine, but the memory address should have been 8000 NOT 0000 as I misread it, following that, the installation was a breeze, Apache, gcc etc all up and running, now for Samba, then on to another one.
