It would indicate that if you had 512 megs of RAM in your machine, you need a 1 to 2 gig cache. See the foolishness of this "rule of thumb?" A better rule of thumb: Take your current RAM into account, estimate what apps you will be running, and use your brain rather than your thumb to decide amount of swap space needed.
