On running 2.2-ALPHA as well and I am using the following kit -rw-r--r-- 1 558 523 2994597 Oct 1 04:15 jdk102.tar.gz that can be obtained at freefall.freebsd.org in the directory: /pub/FreeBSD/LOCAL_PORTS It's a complete port of the JDK 1.02 for FreeBSD. It works very well under 2.2-ALPHA... Even with X11! Alex.
