If there is a space there then that could be your problem. Here's some examples from the /etc/group file to highlight what I mean: wheel:*:0:root,dork,dufus,fungi,kungfu This entry would allow root,dork,dufus,fungi, and kungfu to su. wheel:*:0:root,dork, dufus ^ Again if I recall correctly dork will be able to su but dufus will not, simply because of the space.
