This is the first I've heard of this that I can bring to mind. ack. sigh. it's way *not* the first time that i have brought it up.... and you have even answered, more than once :-) but given the fact that you carrying the weight of the pccard world on your shoulders i dont find your lack of memory on the issue the least bit surprising! this is my little 'mouse on a stick' computer that has the nifty ability to set it's CardBus system to PCIC compatibility mode in it's BIOS. as far as 4.3 is concerned, it believes *absolutely* that i have PCMCIA controllers, thus, my pcmcia ethernet card and my pcmcia modem work perfectly. I learned this *after* i had struggled with trying to get 4,4-RC* and RELEASE to install on this box. When the BIOS was set to CardBus, it probed as such, but of course, my cardbus card didnt work. when i set the bios to PCIC Compatible, it panic'd. I even sent you the panio message and you responded with some thumbnail analysis. but it was right when you where involved in getting 4.4 out the door, so i think you just stack overflowed :-) i'd be happy to revisit the subject if you so desire. *my* wild ass guess is that the 4.4 probe ask's much more of the PCIC system then the 4.3 probe did, and it poked into deeply enuf to discover that it was lying :-). but it had no mechanism to recover from the breach of trust...to mangle the metaphor even further...... :-) > : does the debuglevel stuff that is mentioned in the 4.4 > : /etc/defaults/pccard.conf work in the 4.3 version? > > Yes. good! i'll try that today when i get a chance...... > Warner > -- John L.
