You probably used PrivilegeSeparation for the daemon. There were at
least two PRs for the 4.x version - one made by me ignoring the first
:)

One solution is to have an /etc/resolv.conf in the chroot
directory. I think I saw that issue fixed in the OpenSSH port, but I'm
not sure.
