I don't understand.  Did you complete an installation that now will
not boot or did you simply copy the distribution files over to an
MS-DOS parition?  The booteasy boot manager is not specific to
FreeBSD, nor is it required to boot FreeBSD.

Installing from an MS-DOS partition should work, but if staying
connected to your ISP overnight is a low-cost possibility, then
you may want to consider downloading the lastest version of FreeBSD
right over the Internet.  This may allow you to get started with
FreeBSD before dealing with the CD-ROM drive, and you get the added
benefit of installing the latest release.  Beware that Winmodems
are not supported.

Without knowing much about the computer you describe, I guess your
CD-ROM drive is controlled by the matcd(4) device driver.  This is
not part of the GENERIC kernel in 4.x, but I don't remember whether
or not it is linked into the 3.x GENERIC kernel.  You could install
from the MS-DOS partition or from FTP via the modem and then
recompile your own kernel to support the CD-ROM drive.
