Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-hackers@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk I'm considering trying to assemble a boot floppy with parallel port ZIP drive support. If it works, it'll be a lot easier to install from than floppies (I know from unfortunate experience), but still have the easy, do-it-yourself type of experience. It would also be easier for people with small hard drives who don't want to waste space on a DOS partition to install from, but don't want to much around with installing another hard drive, or a SCSI bus for ZIP, etc. This would be useful for me in a few situations, at least a little fun, and (I think) a nice addition to our repetoir of installation methods. I've often wished to install from a single ZIP disk instead of 50 floppies. So here're my questions: 1) Anyone already done it? 2) Is there any technical reason it can't be done? 3) Any reason it shouldn't be done? 4) Would it require any extraordinary means? i.e., serious source hacking 5) Any hints? 6) Want it if I make it? *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* | FreeBSD; the way computers were meant to be | * "The only reason I'm burning my candle at both ends, is * | that I haven't figured out how to light the middle yet."| * fullermd@futuresouth.com :-} MAtthew Fuller * | http://keystone.westminster.edu/~fullermd | *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
