Matt Dillon was removed from the ranks of committers for one simple reason: the Core Team asked him if he could in the future live up to the Committers Rules and he replied that he could not. We will do the same for anyone else. We hope anyone else who can't play by the rules will voluntarily resign rather than forcing us to take such action. Committers who break the rules but remain personally committed to meeting them are reminded in writing and occasionally by being suspended for a few days. The use of this mechanism has dropped off signficantly from when it was first implemented; I had hopes this meant the project was becoming a less adversarial place to work. Perhaps this can still come about. If you are a committer, this is a good opportunity to review the rules. If you are not a committer but are a contributor to FreeBSD, we welcome your input. We feel the rules are fair and necessary to useful interactions in a group as large as the FreeBSD community has grown. Please let us (the Core Team) know if you see anything in the Rules that is somehow unfair to individuals or groups, or otherwise objectionable. http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/articles/committers-guide/rules.html -- Where am I, and what am I doing in this handbasket?
