Once you've done your login/password bit, your ISP may start talking ppp immediately, in which case ppp detects this and starts talking back. If your ISP is waiting for you to start, type ~p to enter packet mode. Chat logging can be enabled with ``set log +chat''. Alternatively, if you want to see it at your prompt, do ``set log local chat''. Again, check the man page. Although the man page is fairly big (it's even bigger in the dev version :-), it's worth giving it a once over. Even if everything doesn't stick, you'll end up more familiar with how ppp is going about things.
