Yes and no. No in that your freebsd box commonly will use an ethernet connection to some type of gateway which forwards your packets to the internet. T1, DSL, cable, dialup-modem proxy, whatever. Yes in that each connection method may require you to configure your freebsd box differently to take advantage of your connection.
