They're a 56K modem with a 4-port Ethernet hub, and do NAT, DNS and DHCP, but have no firewalling support. They're perfect if all you want to do is have a bunch of desktops share one Internet connection. I think 3Com has discontinued them, so you may be able to pick them up fairly cheaply in the discount bin or from local computer stores that have them collecting dust. -- Matthew Emmerton || matt@gsicomp.on.ca GSI Computer Services || http://www.gsicomp.on.ca On Thu, 4 Oct 2001, parv wrote: > i want to thank everybody for their overwhelming replies. i am now > convinced that ethernet is the only reasonable solution w/o having > one computer on all the time. also, it's cheap & won't require > much tinkering. > > now, i am looking for a some dial-up router as suggested in ryan's > reply. is that what they are really called? any particular > brand/model/manufacturer? > > thanks again. > > -- > > > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org > with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
