Good pointer. Herewith instructions. 1. Download this: ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pub/pccbbs/mobiles/uttpfdos.exe 2. Run that executable on a DOS machine; it will extract a bunch of programs, which you can copy to a bootable DOS floppy. Boot your ThinkPad using this floppy. The important program is "ps.exe". Beware -- it's extremely ugly. This is what I did to turn on the serial port on my 380/2635; YMMV. Note the general strategy is to turn off the IR adapter, and then turn on the serial adapter. My 380 doesn't even have an IR adapter, but that doesn't seem to matter. 3. Type: ps2 ir disable I got "Restart the system for changes to take effect". Don't restart yet, though. 4. Type: ps2 sera enable You can restart now. For me, everything magically started working. If this doesn't work for you, and you need to perform additional ps2.exe shenanigans, "ps2 ?" and "ps2 ? " are your friends.
