No, this gets you the security-fix version of 4.4-RELEASE. Using
RELENG_4_4_0_RELEASE gets you 4.4-RELEASE.

Use RELENG_4.

New features are only available in the latest -STABLE.  However, critical
security bugs (such as the telnetd root exploit) will be fixed in the
security releases (RELENG_4_4 and RELENG_4_3.)

Yes.  STABLE is the "stable" development track, and eventually becomes the
next -RELEASE.
