Just in case you didn't knew already:
Serial Wacoms are supported and work.
I use Intuos2 serial and I have also tried older Intuos serial and ArtPad
II serial models which also worked fine.

You can get used Intuos models pretty cheaply from Wacom onlineshop.

Lack of USB support is sad, but you can use SGI machines with your serial
Wacom, too :)

FYI, pen switch for Intuos2 didn't work until I either compiled XFree Wacom
driver from XFree snapshot or used precompiled driver from linuxwacom
sourceforge project.
