Try nslookup. It should give you an ip address and name for the
nameserver that you're trying to use. This will help to figure out if
you've been assigned an appropriate name server.

Subject: Network trouble

NOT RELATED TO OTHER MESSAGE
My com can't access the web to dl ports or via ftp. However i can ping
IPs on my network and on the net. ftp returns no address associated with
hostname, and ports go through each server and return connection
refused. ping works fine for IPs. Is it supposed to work for hostnames
as well. b/c if so it returns a hostname lookup failure. I have
ifconfig_dc0="DHCP" in rc.conf to get ip,name servers, etc. Do i need
more?
