I just wanted to check, but have you set up an entry in your /etc/printcap
file? I scanned the Lexmark web site, and the printer can be used with DOS,
which means it is probably not a "WINprinter". The web site recommended
telling your DOS application to print to a DeskJet 500C. This is good news,
as you might look for DeskJet 500C support in the mailing list archives and on
the FreeBSD site.

Also, have you entered the following command to make sure your printer is
connected correctly?

lptest > /dev/lpt0

You should see a rotating pattern of text on your printer, if you are
lucky. At the very least, your printer's busy light should at least show some
activity, even if nothing prints.

If you've done all the work of making sure your printcap is correct and the
spooler directory has been created, then forgive me for wasting your time.
