I just did the same upgrade and a new inexplicable menu bar (with a
search box in it) appeared at the top of the window, above the normal
menu bar and just inside the window manager border. Can I get rid of
it somehow?

Thunderbird has been slow and getting slower for me for the last
couple of years, plus it did a terrible job of ingesting PGP key
management. Plus why would I want it to manage my calendar? Fifteen
years ago I switched from evolution to thunderbird, and I'm considering
switching back. -- George
