I found the problem.
My home directories are on a nfs mount - which worked fine for previouse
versions - as it seems jetbrains changed some file access methods - which
causes intellij (and clion) fail to start on newer (> 2018.x) versions.

This is clearly not a port problem - I'll therefore close the pr.
