Hi there,

The reason you can't run X with securelevel 1 is that this level doesn't
allow writing to /dev/kmem, which is required by X in order to function
properly.  You won't need to rebuild your kernel, but you will need to
reboot your machine in order to drop from securelevel 1 -> 0.  :)
