....tried to rebuild a new kernel which would recognise my network card..... its an intel etherpress..... the generic file didn't have a description of it ....and neither did the lint file..... however the handbook did.....I used it and proceeded to build the kernel with the appropriate commands..... well much later.....at the end of the make....before the make install.(last stage)....when loading the kernel ...it says....do not recognise ix driver etc....which is the one related to the card...?...error code 1.... i put back the old kernel and rebooted fine....but with no network card instructions......oobviously... any ideas greatly apreciated.... yes i did have option INET.......and psuedo-device ether.... the line of code i entered for the card was device ix0 at isa? port 0x300 net irq 10 iomem 0xd0000 isoiz 32768 vector ixintr if needed....i could check the /var/log/messages or do it all again and take better note of the error messages.... thanks...
