The server claims the 680/480 and > 800x600 are not supported. It claims that "virtual desktop not supported". If you go to the directory where your logfile is (e.g. /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/xsession-errors) you will see which display modes were deleted and why. 640 and 800 mode are probably supported but may require you to craft your own mode lines in '/etc/XF86Config' You will get a "virtual desktop" error if the mode you are using does not leave you enough memory to map the extra pixels. > and, just to complete the scenario, the 1024x768 works, but due to some > refresh rate issue - i guess - the screen shows small (a small square using > 1/3 to 1/4 of the screen area, in the midle of the monitor, and the image > is "bent", curve sides. This "bent"-ness is called pin cushion. There is a very good source for setting up X on the web, but I can't recall where. Search (X and video and mode and timings) to find it. See also: 'man xf86config' and 'man xvidtune'. Be careful. It is possible to cause damage to your video equipment if you are careless. Have fun, | Stop warning me about the latest virus.
