FreeBSD doesn't start with a desktop environment by default. You should read =A7 5.7 of the FreeBSD manual. It's available as /usr/share/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/index.html or on the FreeBSD website http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/ That section explains how to boot into a desktop environment by default.
