The emacs20 issue is far from new, and is documented in PR ports/39147, along with a suggested workaround. I haven't found any PRs about emacs21, but the build seems to hang when it gets to this point: ../src/emacs -batch --no-site-file --multibyte -f batch-byte-recompile-directory /usr/ports/editors/emacs21/work/emacs-21.2/lisp I killed it after 450 minutes of CPU time on a 600 MHz ev56.
