The C library's stub resolver likes to use TCP connections to talk to named (so that it can get a somewhat guaranteed indication of success or failure). If you do a lot of DNS resolution very quickly, then this can create a lot of TCP connections in TIME_WAIT state. -GAWollman -- Garrett A.
