Before blaming the problem on bento, you need to understand the cause of the situation you have identified. In all likelihood this is a problem in a port exposed by the particular way bento builds packages (all ports built in a clean environment with the packages listed in INDEX pkg_added as dependencies). For example, some ports will incorrectly change their behaviour (relative to the supposed "default" settings in the makefile) when they're built in the presence of a required dependency.
