For me, it wouldn't deinstall because it was trying to deinstall
kde-1.1.2 and I had kde-1.1.1 installed.  I ended up using pkg_delete to
get rid of it before building.  Even after doing that, I still couldn't
use the metaport.  I *had* to build kdelibs before kdebase would build. 
Which is a bit strange, since the ports system is supposed to handle
dependencies.  I don't really understand how it all works, I just play
with it until I can get something going.

I did.  I got rid of everything kde related.  No luck.

Is it just a matter of changing the makefiles or is it integral to the
ports system?
