Agreed.

It's a silly approach we solved by hanging the 'this unit is
going to be returned in an hour' thing over our vendor's head.  They
jumped through the hoops for us, and we had an X2 key and the latest
software revs fairly quick.

Not exactly what I had in mind, but hey, I do like working with the box.
