After reading some information about a recent Linux debate considering the behavior of kill with pid of -1, I decided to test the behavior of FreeBSD (the issue is whether -1 will kill the calling process or not). So I typed at the bash prompt (as a normal user, not root): $kill -9 -1 And my system died. XFree was dead but instead of going back to text mode (as if it was killed) the system was left in an unstable condition. I couldn't log-in again (at least not from the console). The screen went black and nothing worked - I couldn't switch virtual consoles, etc. Ctrl-Alt-Del did not work. I had to push the big red button... Can anyone confirm/explain this phenomena? (this is on a fairly recent -stable). -- Nimrod. To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
