You are lucky this time. The way I see it is patch #1 for freebsd 2.2,
patch # 2 for freebsd 2.2 vs freebsd 3.0 and so on . 

The longer 3.0 stays in active development the harder is going to be
maintaining both 2.2 and 3.0
