FreeBSD STABLE is runnning on my system for a while, of course with root on a primary partition. But like many people coming into FreeBSD I have a multi-OS machine. With Win 98, NT and FreeBSD all primary partitions are full. So to make space for expanding your FreeBSD space you have to use extended slices. And this works, I have already done this to my complete satisfaction. But there I stumbled over the points in my previous mail. Look in the archive there are repeated questions concerning how to deal with extended slices and none is answered in-depth. So I decided to check out things to the base. As I couldnīt answer all my questions alone (lack of knowledge about some design decisions and maybe some FreeBSD tools, I just donīt know about yet) I wrote the above mail. I know itīs long, therefore I asked in the first paragraph for patience and to read the whole thing. Looking at the partition tables you should have seen that there is BSD on it, isnīt it? ;-) Nevertheless thanks for your quick answer, hope this makes things clearer. But Iīm still waiting for some light in dark corners of FreeBSD documentation.
